People have been making art for thousands of years. Art is not only beautiful to look at, but art can be inspirational, calming, or thought-provoking. When someone makes art, they are expressing themselves. An artist can be a painter, sculptor, musician, woodworker, or poet.
Here Are the Different Art Styles:
- Avant-Garde.
Avant-garde (from the French meaning “against-the-grain”) is an art movement that emerged around the beginning of the 20th century. It is a movement with broad roots, as artists began to experiment with different artistic techniques and concepts. Many artists associated with the avant-garde movement were not content simply to replicate traditional art forms; instead, they sought to challenge the boundaries of the accepted forms. Avant-garde artists often engaged in “action painting,” in which artists literally painted while in motion; they also experimented with different materials and styles of work. Avant-garde is more modern, experimental, and less representational.
- Baroque.
Baroque artwork combines elements of Renaissance art with the geometry and architecture of the Baroque period. It also borrows from the High Renaissance art of the 15th and 16th centuries. Baroque artwork is characterized by ornate, complex, and intricate designs. It is the antithesis of simple, realistic forms and is often meant to be seen from a distance rather than up close. The Baroque style of art has been around for more than 400 years, and it’s characterized by its ornate use of symmetry and detail. The Baroque style first appeared in Western Europe in the early 1600s, and it became extremely popular with royal families, who often used Baroque paintings to decorate their palaces. Baroque art typically features dramatic colors and exaggerated facial expressions.
- Bauhaus.
The Bauhaus was a school of art that originated in Dessau, Germany, in 1919. It believed in art for art’s sake and aimed to educate artists the same way that traditional art schools were educating students. In many ways, the Bauhaus was a great experiment in art education that laid the foundations for the modern art movements that followed (and are still influential today).
- Abstract Expressionism.
Abstract expressionism, also called action painting, was a modern art movement that is thought to have started in 1944 when Jackson Pollock created the drip paintings that defined the movement. Abstract expressionists believed that art does not have to be representational or realistic, but instead, that art should be more about feelings than pictures. The movement lasted until 1962 but can still be seen in art today.
- Art Deco.
Art deco is a style that was created around 1920, so it’s considered a more modern art style. This style of art is characterized by geometric shapes formed by straight lines, together with curved and angled lines. Common colors in this style include gold, silver, and grey. Art Deco-inspired fashion is stylish, classy, and sophisticated. Art Deco jewelry often includes geometric shapes, chevron patterns, and chevron stripes.
- Art Nouveau.
Art styles convey specific messages about the art world. Each style usually focuses on certain themes, such as beauty or nature. Art styles also change over time. Many of the art movements were started at the same time but eventually morphed into new styles that reflected new ideas. The Art Nouveau style was a late-19th century movement that emphasized the use of nature. It used many floral and plant motifs, as well as free-flowing designs.
Drawing, painting, cartooning, and sculpture are all art forms. Each one has its own specific attributes, and they all have a lot in common. For example, all art mediums require the artist to use their hands to manipulate different materials, and each one requires some level of creative thought process. But even though all art mediums draw from the same well of creativity, each has its own distinct approach. Certain mediums work with certain artistic styles.
